Rally @ the Courts: Riders vs Gov. Hochul!
Riders have rallied, testified, canvassed, and organized for years to secure the nation’s first congestion pricing program. Chances are, if you’re reading this you know Governor Hochul has spent the past 3 months hiding from riders after announcing an “indefinite pause” weeks before the program was to start, costing New Yorkers hundreds of millions in revenue and effectively canceling $16.5B in transit improvements.
And while the Governor may think she’s above the law and can arbitrarily decide to suspend legislation on a whim, we’re confident the courts will uphold the rule of law and compel her to flip the switch.
On Friday, September 27, riders will have our day in court and put an end to Governor Hochul’s illegal political stunt. Join us for a final show of rider power outside the courthouse to mark what will be a historic day for millions of New Yorkers!
Rally @ MTA Board Meeting
We’re months into Governor Hochul’s congestion pricing pause and hundreds of millions of dollars for new transit improvements have been lost so far. At this month’s MTA Board meeting, there’s no telling what the Governor’s recklessness will cost riders. That’s why we’re, once again, showing out in record numbers to demand an end to Hochul’s illegal congestion pricing “pause”.
Join us at MTA HQ on Wednesday, September 25 to voice your support for congestion pricing and remind Governor Hochul that we aren’t going away until the cameras turn on!
Emergency Rally @ Broadway Junction
Subway riders are furious that Governor Hochul has announced plans to abandon New York’s congestion pricing program, which was set to launch on June 30.
Millions of riders are relying on crucial upgrades to make the subway more reliable and accessible — like modernized signals, elevators, and new infrastructure —which are now on hold due to Governor Hochul’s ill-conceived political maneuver to court white, suburban voters.
Rally with us on Sunday, June 9 at Broadway Junction Station to DEMAND that Governor Hochul keep her promise to Fix the Subway and move congestion pricing forward as planned!

Rally to fix the buses on Fordham Road
Join us at Fordham Plaza on Tuesday, July 11 at 11am to rally with NYC Council Member Pierina Sanchez as we call on Mayor Adams to stand up for riders and deliver a new busway on Fordham Road!
When more than 85% people traveling on Fordham Rd do so via transit, transit should be the priority on the street! But right now, the 85,000 riders that depend on buses along Fordham Rd are stuck slogging through traffic on congested streets.
So, imagine the excitement when DOT proposed a new busway on Fordham Road. A new streetscape that would allow buses and emergency vehicles to travel freely and give riders confidence that their commutes will be reliable and consistent every day. It’s a dream come true!
But, due to a bit of pushback from a handful of wealthy, well-connected business owners and board members of local institutions, the busway has been stalled. That’s why riders are hitting the streets to make sure Mayor Adams and DOT follow through and deliver the busway we deserve!
Cut the Fare! Action + Outreach Day @ City Hall
This Wednesday, June 28, join us for a demonstration at City Hall to urge Mayor Adams to stop dragging his feet on cutting the fare for low-income New Yorkers. We’ll be there cutting the fare for riders one MetroCard at a time to urge Mayor Adams to #ExpandFairFares!
The cost of everything is going up, including rent for rent stabilized units and transit fares, which are due to rise to $2.90 this summer. That means low-income New Yorkers are about to get hit even harder by our city’s ongoing affordability emergency — and Mayor Adams needs to meet the moment with bold action to put more money into the pockets of working New Yorkers.
Right now, the Mayor has the power to fund an expansion of the Fair Fares program and cut transit costs in half for more than 1 million people. But, with the city budget due at the end of June and no indication that he intends to do that, we’re left with no choice but to pull up and show out to demand our Mayor rise to the occasion.
Rant + Rally for Mayor Adams to Cut the Fare!
Whether you’re struggling to afford the rising cost of living, know someone who is, or simply believe that every New Yorker—regardless of their income—has the right to travel, explore, and experience all our city has to offer, we all have a stake in the fight to #ExpandFairFares. This is especially true now, as MTA debates a new fare hike to $2.90 for later this year.
Mayor Adams has the power to cut transit costs in half for more than 1 million people. It’s time for him to act NOW. On Thursday, June 22, riders, advocates, and elected leaders are standing together at MTA Headquarters to implore Mayor Adams to expand the Fair Fares program and guarantee access to affordable transit for all New Yorkers.
Rally will start at 9:30am outside MTA HQ. Then, at 10:00am we will go inside to testify at the fare hike hearing.

Mayor Adams: Cut the Fare, Not the Budget!
As our city becomes less affordable for working New Yorkers, instead of cutting funding to social programs that provide crucial services and resources to people struggling to afford living in our city, Mayor Adams has the power to #ExpandFairFares and cut transit costs in half for more than 1M riders.
Join us at City Hall Subway Station (outside the R/W entrance) on Wednesday, June 7 from 10am-12pm to rally with riders, advocates, and elected leaders calling on Mayor Adams to act NOW for a more affordable, equitable city and utilize his power over the budget to cut costs for New Yorkers!

100 Riders Call Mayor Adams to #ExpandFairFares
Riders! With a new MTA fare hike on the way, one of the best ways Mayor Adams can put money back into the pockets of working New Yorkers this year is to #ExpandFairFares and cut transit costs in half for more than 1M riders.
We need to make sure the Mayor hears riders’ demand to #ExpandFairFares loud and clear. So let’s call him!
Join us on Thursday, June 1, at 125th St A/B/C/D Station from 4pm-7pm, where we’ll set up a phone booth to get at least 100 riders to call the Mayor. We’ll talk to riders about our push to #ExpandFairFares and invite riders to leave a message for the Mayor, send him an email, or record a video about why we need to make transit more affordable!
Virtual All-Member Meeting
Riders took home some monumental wins in the state budget this year, including an unprecedented subway service expansion!
Join us on Zoom to discuss everything riders won in the state budget, including: subway service expansion, Automated Bus Lane Enforcement (ABLE), free bus pilot, and funding to stabilize MTA amid fiscal crisis. We’ll also reflect on what we didn’t fin, and how that will inform campaign work moving forward.
Finally, we’ll offer some exciting updates about our campaign to #ExpandFairFares to reach a million more New Yorkers, and how you can get involved now.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Testify to #ExpandFairFares at the MTA Board Meeting!
The cost of living in New York City is spiraling out of control. And the fare is going up.

Working-class New New Yorkers depend on transit more than anyone else in the city. Let’s make transit affordable for everyone!
Join us at the MTA board meeting to share your experience for why you or your community need more affordable fares. Riders Alliance members will testify together (in person and virtually!) to demand that we #ExpandFairFares!

Riders are gathering at Union Square on Friday to celebrate the long-awaited federal approval of congestion pricing and to urge our state leaders to move quickly toward implementation.

Bronx Community Meeting
Right now, to qualify for a half-price MetroCard through the Fair Fares program, you’d have to be making less than $14,580/year. We’re working to double that to $29,160 (and $60,000/year for families of four) and bring affordable transit to more than 1.7 million New Yorkers!
Join us on Wednesday, April 12, from 6pm-7:30pm at the New Settlement Community Center for our Bronx Community Meeting to learn how get involved in our campaigns to win more affordable, frequent, and reliable bus and subway service!

Painting Union Square for #6MinuteService
On Sunday, March 26, Riders are showing their true colors and painting a crystal clear picture of what we need from Governor Hochul — funding for frequent bus and subway service we can count on all day, every day!
Join us at 14th St – Union Square Center Station, where riders from across the city will come together to paint and display a 30-foot mural with our calls for a fair budget that can deliver 6-minute (or better!) wait times for the buses and subways we depend on daily.
#ExpandFairFares Organizing Meeting
Fair Fares has made transit more affordable for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers since 2019 with half-priced MetroCards for those living at or below the federal poverty level, but can still do much more to help those struggling to afford their basic needs amidst the city’s ongoing affordability crisis.
Right now, the income threshold to qualify for Fair Fares stands at $14,580 for individuals and $30,000 for families of four. That leaves many New Yorkers who are working and living in poverty unable to benefit from Fair Fares.
Join us for an Organizing Meeting on Thursday, March 23 at Riders Alliance Office (or virtually, via Zoom) to prepare our campaign plan for this year’s city budget season to raise the income threshold for Fair Fares eligibility to cover families making up to $60,000 a year.
